Making Money through Ezines
By: Anne Wolski
Are you tired of trying to make money through selling someone else’s product on the internet? Then why not consider making money through publishing your own eZine or electronic newsletter?
Unlike conventional publishers, an eZine publisher has few overheads. There is no need to hire professional writers, machinery operators and so forth to handle your publication. It can be done on your computer and you can choose to fully automate the procedure through an auto responder.
Being an eZine publisher gives you the convenience of spreading your expertise and marketing influence to your list of subscribers at a relatively low cost.
To start your own eZine, you only need an auto responder and a broadcast feature. If you do not have your own product to sell, then publishing an eZine is a very wise move as it presents you with impressive marketing power and influence.
Selling advertising space in your eZine is a good way to create extra income. Take a look at your local newspaper. They have all of the overheads of hiring writers, reporters, printers etc plus the cost of machinery. Their expenditure is huge. Obviously, at the price of a newspaper, their profit would be minimal at best.
So, how does the newspaper company make money? The answer? Selling advertising spaces! I’m sure you have seen how many ads are in the newspaper. The publisher simply sells advertising space to advertisers who want to leverage their advertising efforts on the paper’s high readership.
Using the above analogy, you can make money through the same methods by selling advertising space in an eZine. You do however need a mailing list of at least one thousand subscribers to make it appealing to prospective advertisers. If you have a sizeable mailing list, you could begin selling sponsor ads for around ten dollars apiece.
By doing this, you make every issue of your eZine into a virtual profit machine. And, as there are infinite possibilities to the products, services, and businesses that are cropping up, your money making opportunities are also boundless.
One of the challenges of creating your own ezine is that of finding content. Content comes under four categories which are:
1. Factual content 2. Short stories 3. Mini stories 4. Case studies
If you don’t wish to write your own content, you can get good content by interviewing leaders in a particular field. You can also hire the services of a ghostwriter.
Another little known and underused method in getting your own content is via public domains. If you are not familiar with the term "public domain", "public domain" simply means anything that is NOT protected under US copyright law.
This includes ALL works published before 1923 and, under certain conditions, works published up to 1978. And in this case, we are referring "works" to written materials such as reports, articles and books.
Because they are readily available, rewriting and republishing public domain is a good way to create content for your eZine. You are also saved the expense of royalties or copyright fees.
