How to Compare the Consumer Cost of Unlocked Used Cell Phones

By: Kevin Wynn

Multimedia Even though unlocked used cell phones may be cheaper to purchase, there may be some hidden costs to consumers.   As with any other product where you will also have to purchase a service plan, you will need to study your options carefully.  Unfortunately, what may look like a bargain may only cause a large number of  problems in the future.

One of the first things you will have to assess is the functionality of the phone.  In many cases, you will find that these phones are brand new.  That said, the CDMA software inside the phone may have been modified in order to enable the phone to work on other networks.  As may be expected, this may cause a wide range of issues.

Next, you will need to consider the size of the network you will be interfacing with. Unfortunately, you will find that some phones will not work, even in areas where you would expect reasonable service.   Even though these plans may be very cheap, they will be useless.  Without a question, the last thing you will want to do is purchase a cell phone and not be able to use it.

When it comes to cellular accessories, you may have to pay full price for them. As an example, if you want a carrying case, or handheld headset, you may not be able to purchase them along with the phone.   At the same time, you may also find that purchasing generic headsets and other products will also create a poor sound quality.  That said, if you are only concerned about communicating in an emergency, then these may still be suitable for your needs.

Chances are,  if you own pdas, then you know blue tooth wireless technologies are always expanding.  In a similar way there are all kinds of innovations in the cell phone market.  Among other things, camera phones and models with added memory are becoming more popular.  At the same time, when you purchase unlocked phones, you may only be able to take advantage of phones without these upgrades.

Unfortunately, some of these innovations mean that older types of service will no longer be available.  Therefore, when you buy unlocked used cell phones, you may find that they will become obsolete in a short period of time.  As may be expected, you will have to study the make and model carefully to determine whether or not it will still be supported.

Irregardless of whether your cell phone was manufactured by ATT, Ericsson, Motorola or Kyocera, you will find that you need to buy a wireless service plan.  Typically, you will purchase your cell phone from service plan providers.  On the other hand, when you purchase unlocked used cell phones, there is no way to know for sure which network your  phone is interfacing with.  In some cases, you may even find that the phone is almost useless because it is on a very small network with a limited transmission range.
