Earn Extra Money - People Hate To Sell And Hate To Be Sold
By: Melanie Kissell
You absolutely, positively Do Not need to become a salesperson to earn extra money from home. At least 97% of the population Hates to sell and Hates to be sold. I'll bet that includes You.
Some people start their MLM business with the plan of learning everything they possibly can about their company's products or services. They dedicate themselves to becoming an expert. Problem is, that is a total waste of time. It may sound logical. But this business is about building relationships rather than selling product ... because you are not a salesperson.
If you try to get people to buy from you, then you are "TOAST" before you start. And even if you can do it, you won't be able to train anyone else to sell a product. Selling isn't duplicatable. Better to spend your time becoming expert on people, because in network marketing, people are your REAL product.
Your job is to help people achieve their dreams in life. To do that, you must get to understand them. Build trust with them. You must build a relationship. That's the most important thing. Devote your time to getting good at relationship-building skills.
Train yourself to be a great listener, so you understand exactly what the people you talk to want. And then you help them get it. To achieve their goals, they will buy your products ... if YOU have built that relationship with them.
There are some subtle things that can make a big difference in whether you have a chance for long-term success with any particular MLM company. This sounds pretty wild but, trust me, it is true.
One factor that can make a huge difference is whether or not your company owns its own software. How could THAT possibly make a difference, you wonder?
The way it works is, most new companies are cash-poor. They can cut expenses by renting the software to run the company. So instead of paying $1 million or more upfront, maybe they're spending $10,000 a month on the software rental. So far, so good. But there are a couple problems that can come up.
First, every compensation plan has its own idiosyncracies. No two seem to be alike. Often, that off-the-shelf software rental cannot be tweaked to handle compensation plan changes. So if the company discovers a better way of doing things, it can't ... because it's locked-in by the software.
And second, most of these contracts specify that the software vendor is a co-owner of the database. The result is, if your company has tough times and can't make a payment, the software vendor can rent out the database if they want ... that includes all the names of the group you have built. Incredible, but it has happened ... more than twice! You don't run that risk if the company owns the sotware.
Long-time network marketer Michael Dlouhy wrote about these ideas and more in his ebook, "Success In 10 Steps." There is some real eye-opening stuff in this book.
Chances are, you realize the "go down in flames" rate is pretty high in most businesses. And with most MLM companies, the cards are really stacked against you.
Some time back, Dlouhy joined 100 MLM companies and did a comparison of them in a lot of different ways. He found some common problems that cause most new reps to really have no chance to ever be successful in the business. And he realized that if you do the right actions and avoid the wrong ones, you have a real chance to make a long-term living from network marketing, maybe even achieve the "retirement" dream. It's definitely a book worth reading.
