RICO Equipment Solves Dealership Liability Risks.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(July 18, 2008 – Medina, Ohio) Everyday at RICO Equipment calls come in from dealers looking for the most economical way to meet the specialized lift truck needs of their customers. Unfortunately, far too often the solution offered by the dealer is in the form of modification to a manufacturer’s original equipment. While the solution is cheap, the problem is that usually these modifications are not authorized by the original manufacturer and the integrity of the lift truck is compromised dramatically, often resulting in injury or even death. Most dealers don’t realize the extreme liability they incur from unauthorized modifications to a lift truck.
With well over one million lift trucks in operation today, emphasis must be placed on safety. The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is empowered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to issue standards and rules requiring employers to provide their employees with safe and healthful workplaces and jobsites, and to assure through workplace inspections that those standards are followed. OSHA prescribes to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to determine the safety guidelines for lift trucks.
According to ASME B56.1b-2003 the following rules must be followed for lift truck modification:
"no modifications or alterations to a powered industrial truck, which may affect the capacity, stability, or safe operation of the truck, shall be made without the prior written approval of the original truck manufacturer or its successor thereof. When the truck manufacturer or its successor approves a modification or alteration, appropriate changes shall be made to capacity plates, decals, tags, and operation and maintenance manuals."
Customized lift truck design and fabrication is an extremely detail-oriented process. That process demands a critical attention to safety precautions. RICO Equipment wants to make sure you are protecting yourself from potential dangers and liabilities that may result from unauthorized lift truck modifications. If you are unsure about the specialized product that you are offering, don’t put yourself at risk, call RICO and find out what the best solution is.
