Web Design

Web design is the process producing electronic media content through the internet. They are displayed in software called a browser, which understands the language used to create the media. The aim of web design is to ultimately create a website. These are a collection of files that are saved on one or more servers. Languages such as HTML and XHTML can be used to create text, images or forms for a web page. As on optional feature plug-ins such as Flash, Java and QuickTime can display more complex vector graphics such as videos, sound or animations. Other languages can manipulate the content for the web page. This language is called Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). This language can be applied to a current HTML or XHTML website to alter how it looks.Web pages are categorized as either static or dynamic. Static pages do not change how they look until a designer updates the page manually. Dynamic pages on the other hand adapt their content depending on the user’s input and interaction with the page. Dynamic content is compiled using other languages such as PHP and ASP. Web Site Design companies specialize in creating websites.Web sites are built for a specific purpose or subject. A web site can be created for a shop to sell a product or give information about a disease. But each web site follows the same aspects. These aspects are:Content (What information will be placed onto the pages)Usability (Should be user-friendly by having a simple layout and navigation)Appearance (Constancy to text and graphics)Visibility (The website must be found easily)Each website contains a home page. This is page that the end user will see first. They typically give a welcome message, disclaimer or information about the site. Each site has its own URL. No two websites can have the same URL. Websites can be identified typically by what is place after the address for example .co.uk is a UK website and .co.ca is Canada. Some companies buy multiple URL’s for maximum visibility. For example you can access the BBC website by using both the .com and .co.uk extensions. Within the pages there are hyperlinks. These can be linked to a page within the website or to an external website. A good example of this will be Google. Google is a search engine and when a use searches for a subject Google will return a list of websites with a hyperlink linked to the page of that subject.Once the website is complete it will need to be uploaded to the internet. This can be done using an FTP client. When uploaded the web manager can then use different tools and techniques to increase traffic to the site. One of these techniques is to submit the website to a search engine such as Ask or Google. They can still edit the website once it has been published therefore keeping it up to date for the end user. Either a single person can try to build a website or they can go to a company who offer a range of services. Using a company will be better as the website will look more professional. An example of a web design company is Web Design Studio.
