Gas Prices Aren’t That High, Comparatively…

By: Vincent Platania

Maintenance Every day on the nightly news, there is a story about the rising gas prices. Monthly, there are over 20,000 articles published about the steady and rapid increase in fuel costs. It has replaced "the weather" as a topic of conversation. What makes this topic more interesting is the variety of subjects that are also intertwined within. As prices may be rising in certain parts of the country, in others, they remain steady or may even drop a little. Because of gas prices, a lot of consumers have to adjust their spending habits to maintain their budget. Even worse, commercial establishments have to raise their prices to cover the costs of logistical and energy price increases, because those industries use the same fuels, too! Despite all of this, gas really isn’t that expensive.

At the writing of this article, the average price of gasoline nationwide is about $3.00 per gallon. That’s pretty expensive compared to the average price per gallon five years ago at $1.75. But if you were to compare gas to something like bottled water, which costs about $6.00 per gallon, three bucks isn’t that bad! Coca-Cola in 20 oz bottles: $8.26! A premium ice cream costs about $12.00 per gallon.

Yes, a gallon of Coca-Cola may last you a week, and you go through two or three gallons of gasoline just getting to work. Obviously, we all spend a lot more on gas than on ice cream. One point is, you can even spend less on gas by using synthetic lubricants. Since synthetic lubricants have superior protection against heat, wear, and cold starts, as well as increased power and economy, with a cooler running engine, they are an excellent choice to make for helping balance the budget.

Everybody is talking about fuel prices these days, and there are many topics that surround it. Next time you are in a discussion about this, you can throw in the fact that if you compared it to other things, it really isn’t expensive at all! You can also add that your fuel bill is even lower because of the benefits of synthetic lubricants that you use in your own vehicle. Less friction means better fuel economy, and studies have proven that a synthetic lubricant lubricates far better and lasts longer than its petroleum-based cousin.
